Slovak-American Cookbook

Sample Recipe

Clam Chowder

  • 1 dozen clams
  • 3 ounces salt pork
  • 2 quarts boiling water
  • 3 large potatoes
  • 1 can tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 5 chowder crackers
  • salt and pepper to taste

Cut pork in small pieces and brown. Dice potatoes, cut onions into small pieces. Add water and seasoning, and boil 1 hour. Now add juice of clams and boil 1/2 hour. Add chopped clams and boil 20 minutes longer. Dust with paprika. Serve with crackers.
